The ruby peaches used by Maison Ponthier originate from the Rhone Valley in France. This orchard fruit ripens during the same season as grapes. Sensitive to the powdery mildew emitted by their crops, some wine growers of the Coteaux du Lyonnais region would plant peach trees among their vines in order to detect these attacks and hence fight them as soon as possible. Ruby peach trees only give fruit for a dozen or so days, harvested by hand when fully ripe at the end of the season. This fragile fruit is then delicately transported to the processing plant where the purée is made using the finest purplish-skinned peaches offering soft, fragrant flesh with sweet and melt-in-the-mouth flavour.
